UGI Utilities, Inc. – Electric Division – provides four rate options to environmentally conscious residential customers who have elected to purchase electricity from renewable (or “green”) energy sources.

Renewable energy purchases refect various customer usage levels and combinations of the cleanest forms of power generation, as defined in Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act.

To meet customers’ monthly usage requirements, UGI, for 2009, will purchase approximately 50 percent of renewable energy from sources located within the PJM Interconnection, the world’s largest competitive wholesale electricity market serving all or parts of Pennsylvania and 12 other states, as well as the District of Columbia.

For the four renewable energy rate options, energy sources are divided into two tiers:

UGI purchases Renewable Energy Certificates, or Credits, that verify that power from alternative Tier I and Tier II sources are supplied to the energy grid.

For 2009, UGI expects to purchase approximately 23,000 Megawatt hours of Tier I renewable energy. Of this, 100 Megawatt hours will be solar energy. Also for 2009, UGI expects to purchase 43,000 Megawatt hours of Tier II energy.
