APPLIANCE CONSUMPTION
The U.S. Department of Energy provides these statistics regarding electricity consumption for specific appliances. Remember, even though some appliances are in the "off" position, they may still be using energy; examples of this include TV's and VCR's. To avoid what the Department of Energy terms "phantom loads" they recommend unplugging appliances or using power strips to control the electrical flow.
| Appliance | Wattage |
|---|---|
| Clothes Washer | 350 - 500 |
| Clothes Dryer | 1800 - 5000 |
| Dishwasher (the drying feature increases energy consumption) | 1200 - 2400 |
| Fans (Ceiling and Window) | 55 - 250 |
| Microwave Oven | 750 - 1100 |
| Water Heater (40 gallon) | 4500 - 5500 |
