HOW CHOICE WORKS
UGI Penn Natural Gas' traditional or "bundled" natural gas service is made up of three parts:
- Gas Supply - UGI Penn Natural Gas purchases natural gas from producers and re-sells it to you at the same price.
- Transportation - To deliver gas to our local area, UGI Penn Natural Gas transports it through large interstate pipelines owned by other companies.
- Local Distribution - UGI Penn Natural Gas owns and maintains a network of local pipelines that deliver the natural gas to your home or business.
With natural gas choice you can shop around and select the supplier who will provide your gas supply and transportation services. UGI Penn Natural Gas will continue to deliver the natural gas to your home or business through our local pipelines.
Why would I want to choose a new supplier?
In a competitive market, suppliers can offer a variety of prices, incentives or services to gain your business. Natural gas suppliers may be able to offer you prices or options that UGI Penn Natural Gas, a regulated utility, cannot offer. It is in your best interest to explore your options and make the choice that’s right for you.
Do I have to choose a new supplier?
No. It’s up to you to decide if you want to choose a new supplier. You may still choose to purchase your natural gas from UGI Penn Natural Gas. You can also shop at a later time.
Will I need to have new pipelines installed?
No. Regardless of where you buy your natural gas, it will still be delivered to you through UGI Penn Natural Gas' local pipelines. In addition, you will not need a new meter if you decide to choose a new gas supplier.
Who will respond to emergencies?
You can always depend on UGI Penn Natural Gas to provide safe, reliable natural gas service. If you choose to buy your natural gas from a new supplier, UGI Penn Natural Gas will still be your natural gas distribution company. UGI Penn Natural Gas will continue to provide meter reading service and 24-hour emergency response. UGI Penn Natural Gas will also maintain our local pipelines.
Who can participate in UGI Penn Natural Gas gas choice program?
All residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers are eligible to participate in the natural gas choice program. Participation is not limited and you can sign up at any time. However, if you are a Low Income Self Help Program (LISHP) participant, you pay a special amount based on your income, which is less than the amount of gas that you use. If you are thinking about choice, you must compare the actual cost of your usage and not the amount of your special payment. If you do decide to select a gas supplier, you will no longer qualify for LISHP and will be responsible for the actual cost of your gas supply and delivery. (LISHP is not the same as UGI Penn Natural Gas' Budget Billing Program which spreads you total annual gas bill over twelve months.) If you are unsure whether or not this applies to you, or are interested in more information about LISHP, click here or contact us at 1-800-432-8017.
