Spotlight On Our Employee Volunteers:
Kathy McQuiston

Kathy McQuiston, Staff Assistant, UGI Utilities, Inc. has been a dedicated volunteer since the early- to mid-1970s.

A UGI employee for 45 years, McQuiston’s volunteer experience is varied. In the 70s and 80s, she volunteered at fundraisers, nursing homes and senior centers through a dance group she belonged to, and since the 90s, she has been volunteering for Reading is Fundamental through UGI. She also has volunteered with UGI’s Employee Activities Committee events.

“Allowing time to do RIF is great and when I was more involved in the scheduling, it was great to see the enthusiasm of fellow employees for this really worthwhile and rewarding volunteer opportunity,” said McQuiston. 

However, McQuiston said her heart is truly with the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue in Reinholds. She has volunteered at various fundraising events at the Rescue by setting up for events, helping to prepare food, and man food stations. She’s also adopted three senior dogs from the rescue.

“The first two were from puppy mills and a great challenge,” she said. “It’s really heartbreaking when you see a dog that’s afraid to walk on grass, through a doorway or doesn’t even know what to do with a toy, but with much work and patience, the end result is a happy, loving dog that just wants to be with you.”

McQuiston feels it is important to give back to the community, because it helps make them stronger.

“Just try something once, some things take very little time from your day,” she said. “There are numerous volunteer opportunities within the company but many more outside.  Find something that is near and dear to your heart, you won’t regret it and the payback is priceless.”
