UGI Completes New Solar Installation at Lancaster Headquarters
04 Nov 2020
UGI recently completed the installation of a new state-of-the-art solar array at the company’s Denver, Pa., headquarters. The project is another step forward in UGI’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The greenhouse gas emissions savings from the solar array are equivalent to removing 77 cars from the road each year, or planting 462 new acres of trees.
The solar array works in tandem with the building’s efficient combined heat and power (CHP) system.
When the sun is shining, UGI now draws power for its offices from the solar array, and throttles down its CHP system. This smart system ensures that the maximum amount of renewable energy is being utilized. And when there is less sun, the responsive CHP system ramps up to provide the majority of power for the building.
UGI is evaluating the feasibility of adding solar installations at its other offices.
