PG Energy Announces LIHEAP Assistance Stations – November 1, 2005

Wilkes-Barre, PA (November 1, 2005) – PG Energy urges income-eligible customers who rent or own property to apply for heating payment assistance through the federally-funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Last year, more than 15,000 PG Energy customers received assistance through the LIHEAP. During November, PG Energy representatives will be available at off-site locations throughout the company’s service area to distribute applications for the cash grant portion of the program and assist customers in completing them.

Applying customers must provide proof of income, a recent PG Energy heating bill and the name, birth date and social security number of each person in the household. The deadline to complete an application is March 23, 2006. Guidelines for acceptance into the program are:

Beginning November 9, PG Energy representatives will be available to assist customers in applying for the cash grant portion of LIHEAP: Dupont Borough Building, 600 Chestnut Street, Dupont, Wednesday, Nov. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm; Luzerne Borough Building, 144 Academy Street, Luzerne, Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wyoming Borough Building, 277 Wyoming Avenue,Wyoming, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Nanticoke City Building, 15 East Ridge Street, Nanticoke, Thursday, Nov. 17, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Plymouth Borough Building, Shawnee Avenue, Plymouth, Monday, Nov. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Old Forge Borough Building, 310 South Main Street, Old Forge, Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Salvation Army, 739 San Souci Parkway, Hanover Township, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Additional money is available through LIHEAP crisis grants. Individuals that have an emergency situation and are in jeopardy of losing their heat are urged to apply for this additional assistance. Emergency situations include:

  • broken heating equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced
  • lack of fuel
  • termination of utility service
  • danger of being without fuel or of having utility service terminated
