Public Service Announcement – Potential Severe Flooding
08 Sep 2011
Wilkes-Barre, PA (September 8, 2011) – Expected severe flooding conditions have resulted in the evacuation of the entire Wyoming Valley by 8 p.m. Thursday. Utility service in the immediate Wilkes-Barre area could be impacted, including 12,000 UGI Penn Natural Gas customers and up to 30,000 Electric customers in Wilkes-Barre city and west side locations including Kingston and Forty Fort.
Bob Stoyko, Vice President – Northern Region, said the area evacuated is essentially the same as that impacted by Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972.
Stoyko said flooding may result in gas service interruptions and potential electric power outages. Please call UGI at 1-800-276-2722 to report any gas or electric service interruption.
If you depend on medical equipment for life-support, we recommend that you purchase a back-up power supply or arrange to stay with family or friends. In a major outage, we may not be able to provide priority service in restoring electric service.
If you use a generator during an outage, please make sure it is used safely.
UGI will be fully staffed to deal with any power outages as quickly as possible.
