Reading, PA (August 28, 2011) – Approximately 22,000 UGI Electric customers, including many of those in the Back Mountain area, are currently without power due to extensive damage caused by Hurricane Irene. The storm caused the outage of five transmission feeders, which resulted in the extensive power outages throughout UGI’s service area.
Approximately 10,000 customers have had their service restored as of today and UGI crews are working diligently to restore power to customers over the next few days. UGI would like to emphasize that due to the extent of the outage, customers should be prepared to be without power for an extended period, possibly for the next several days.
The safety of our affected customers and communities is a top priority of UGI. Always avoid downed power lines and stay away from any electrical equipment that is partially or totally submerged in water.
To report a power outage or in the event of an electrical emergency, customers are advised to contact UGI Electric’s 24-hour emergency number, (800) 276-2722.
UGI would like to thank our customers for their patience as we work to restore power to their homes and businesses.
