RIF Names UGI Donor of the Month for February

The Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) children’s literacy organization has named UGI Utilities, Inc., its Donor of the Month for February 2005.
“We are extremely pleased to give recognition this month to a longtime friend and supporter of RIF,’’ said Carol H. Rasco, RIF President and Chief Executive Officer. “For the past 14 years, UGI has contributed both financially and through employee volunteerism to the RIF programs they support.’’
Added Dave Trego, UGI Utilities’ President and Chief Executive Officer: “Since 1989, UGI has been an active advocate of education reform and improvement on national, state and local levels. Our unique motivational-reading partnership with RIF has been in existence since April 1991.’’
UGI funds 80 percent of local RIF program needs in selected elementary schools throughout its central and eastern Pennsylvania service territory. In addition, employee volunteers attend RIF book distributions to assist children with reading and in various literacy activities.
Through the partnership, UGI distributes approximately 43,000 books to about 14,300 first grade students on an annual basis.
UGI Utilities, Inc. – which has headquarters in Reading, PA – is a provider of natural gas and electricity, maintains an employee staff of nearly 1,100 and serves approximately 362,000 customers in 16 central and eastern Pennsylvania counties.
