UGI Utilities, Inc. provided support and assistance in the distribution of Emergency Preparedness Kits to participants during the American Red Cross Senior Preparedness Education Program today at the Columbia Senior Center. Kits included an emergency poncho, blanket, hand warmers, drinking water pouch, light stick, whistle, breathing mask and a variety of basic first aid materials.
UGI funded the cost of the Emergency Preparedness Kits as part of the Company’s recent $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross. With the donation, UGI became the inaugural sponsor for the Senior Preparedness Education Program launched by the American Red Cross serving Central Pennsylvania.
“UGI is pleased to join the American Red Cross in promoting emergency preparedness through education sessions in our communities,” Keith Dorman, UGI director of communications and community relations, said. “We are proud to deepen our partnership with the American Red Cross, which will assist in the delivery of essential programs and services to residents of Central Pennsylvania.”
The American Red Cross stressed the importance of UGI’s contribution in helping expand their services in the region.
“The American Red Cross is committed to serving our communities,” Ellen Kyzer, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross serving Central Pennsylvania, said. “We are fortunate to have UGI’s support and assistance in facilitating education sessions and distributing Emergency Preparedness Kits in order to promote senior preparedness, fire safety and prevention, and disaster services.”
The Senior Preparedness Education Program is designed to help older Pennsylvanians be aware and better prepared in a disaster or emergency situation. Older adults are especially susceptible to injury and death by fire, therefore a portion of the program is dedicated to fire safety. The American Red Cross is working with senior centers and communities to host safety presentations and to provide the seniors with take-home preparedness material.
