18 Oct 2013

UGI announced a contribution of $30,000 to support the Lehigh Carbon Community College’s SHINE program at the “Lights On for After School” celebration at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute on October 17.

SHINE is a program recognized for its success in promoting science and technology careers in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding counties. Over the past two years the SHINE Afterschool Program has targeted high priority occupations with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) learning to emphasize development of the skills needed for the 21st Century workforce. The program has been recognized by both the Pennsylvania Department of Education and U.S. Department of Education.

UGI has a long history of community involvement and has focused on providing education and literacy support to communities within its service area.

“Our children are our future,” said Robert F. Beard, President and CEO of UGI Utilities. “Supporting programs like SHINE ensures today’s students will be well equipped to be tomorrow’s leaders. UGI is pleased to make this contribution as part of our commitment to be a good partner and a good neighbor in the communities we serve.”
