UGI Announces Archbald Infrastructure Betterment Project
06 May 2016
May 9, 2016 – UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project in Archbald and part of Mayfield beginning Monday, May 9. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative.
The natural gas main improvement project will be conducted on State Route 6 between Betty Street and Rushbrook Street. The project is expected to last approximately three months. Natural gas main replacement construction is scheduled to be performed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
UGI’s Archbald project will replace approximately 8200 feet of steel main. UGI contractor crews will be excavating in the construction zone along State Route 6. Residents and drivers traveling in the area should note that lane restrictions will be in effect during the project, and should consider alternate routes. Motorists driving through the construction zone are urged to watch for roadwork signs, and to follow the directions of flag personnel.
“UGI recognizes Archbald residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank Archbald officials for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
UGI will spend more than $150 million in fiscal year 2016 to replace natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects. Approximately 64 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains are targeted for replacement this year. Since beginning this initiative, UGI has retired nearly 200 miles of non-contemporary pipelines.
