06 Jun 2016
June 8, 2016 – UGI will begin a natural gas main replacement project in the Town of Bloomsburg, Columbia County, beginning the week of June 13. UGI’s Bloomsburg project will replace approximately 500 feet of an existing bare steel natural gas main with contemporary high-density plastic. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative.
The natural gas main improvement project will be take place on Iron Street (State Road 4009), between East Main Street and East First Street.
The project is expected to last approximately three weeks and is expected to be completed by July 1. Natural gas main replacement construction will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
Residents and drivers traveling in the area should note that a detour will be in effect during the hours of construction each day. The affected portion of Iron Street will be re-opened to traffic at the end of each work day.
“UGI recognizes Bloomsburg residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank the Town of Bloomsburg for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
UGI will spend more than $150 million in fiscal year 2016 to replace natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects. Approximately 64 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains are targeted for replacement this year. Since beginning this initiative, UGI has retired nearly 200 miles of non-contemporary pipelines.
