UGI Announces Blossburg Infrastructure Betterment Project

02 Jun 2016

June 2, 2016 – UGI will begin a natural gas main replacement project in Blossburg Borough, Tioga County, beginning the week of June 6. UGI’s Blossburg project will replace approximately 3,150 feet of an existing bare steel natural gas main with contemporary high-density plastic. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative.

The natural gas main improvement project will be take place on Gulick Street, from the intersection of South Williamson Road south past the intersection with Davis Lane. The work zone will end approximately 500 feet south of the Davis Lane intersection.

The project is expected to last approximately six weeks and should be concluded by early August. Natural gas main replacement construction will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Residents and drivers traveling in area should note that lane restrictions will be in effect during the project, and should consider alternate routes. Motorists driving through the construction zone are urged to watch for roadwork signs, and to follow the directions of flag personnel.

“UGI recognizes Blossburg residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank the Borough of Blossburg for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”

UGI will spend more than $150 million in fiscal year 2016 to replace natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects. Approximately 64 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains are targeted for replacement this year. Since beginning this initiative, UGI has retired nearly 200 miles of non-contemporary pipelines.
