UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project in the boroughs of Palmerton and Bowmanstown beginning June 27. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.
The natural gas main replacement project will take place on Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton and extend into White Street in Bowmanstown. As part of this project, the road will be closed to through traffic weekdays from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. between Tunnel Street in Palmerton and Ridge Street in Bowmanstown.
During construction hours, drivers are asked to follow posted traffic signs and use alternate routes. Residents will experience temporary parking restrictions, traffic pattern changes and equipment parked on the street.
This project will replace 2,000 feet of gas main and is expected to last through mid-August. UGI will work to restore areas affected by the construction to their original condition.
“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank officials from both Palmerton and Bowmanstown for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
UGI Utilities will spend more than $173 million in fiscal year 2018 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
