UGI Announces Infrastructure Projects in Shamokin Dam and Northumberland

12 Nov 2018

UGI Utilities, Inc. will resume a natural gas main replacement project on State Road 11/15 in the Shamokin Dam area beginning Sunday, November 11. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.

The project will take place on State Road 11/15 between Roosevelt Avenue and Susquehanna Valley Mall Road. The work will be done in the evening from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Work will take place in the southbound lane and will require a partial lane closure. Flaggers will direct traffic during construction hours. The work is expected to take approximately three weeks.

In addition, UGI will be replacing a natural gas main at the intersection of Queen Street and Water Street in Northumberland beginning Monday, November 12. The work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is expected to last approximately two days.

Traffic on Water Street will not be affected, but a partial lane closure will be required on Queen Street. Flaggers will direct traffic during construction hours.

“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during these projects. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “These projects are part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make these long-term system improvements. We also thank local officials for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of these projects.”

UGI Utilities will spend more than $173 million in 2018 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
