UGI Announces Kingston Infrastructure Project – May 2019

13 May 2019

UGI Utilities, Inc. began a natural gas main replacement project in the Borough of Kingston this week. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.

The natural gas main replacement project affects the following streets:

  • Schuyler Avenue between West Vaughn Street and Spruce Street;
  • Spruce Street between Schuyler Avenue and Market Street;
  • West Vaught Street between Schuyler Avenue and Mercer Avenue.

In addition, a number of cross-streets that intersect Schuyler Avenue within the construction zone are impacted as the new main is tied into existing infrastructure.

Construction will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The natural gas main replacement is expected to be completed by October 2019. Restoration on the road beds of affected streets will be completed prior to winter, with permanent road restoration scheduled for the Spring 2020.

This project will also renew gas service lines to approximately 90 homes and businesses.

Residents and motorists should expect road closures, parking restrictions, and traffic detours during the project. Motorists are urged to consider alternate routes.

“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Timothy Angstadt, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank officials from Kingston for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”

UGI Utilities will spend more than $187.5 million in fiscal year 2019 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
