UGI Announces Lime Street, Lancaster Infrastructure Project

19 Feb 2020

UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project on Lime Street in Lancaster beginning March 2. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative and is being completed ahead of a scheduled paving project by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 2021.

The natural gas main replacement project will take place in two phases, the first from East Vine Street to East Lemon Street and the second from East James Street to East Liberty Street. A number of intersecting streets will also be impacted by this project including:

    • East Grant Street to North Shippen Street;
    • East Marion Street to North Cherry Street;
    • East Fulton Street to North Cherry Street;
    • Ice Avenue toward North Shippen Street.
    • N Jefferson St from E Grant Street toward E King Street.

More than 10,000 feet of non-contemporary main will be replaced. This project will also renew gas service lines to 224 homes and businesses along the route.

Construction hours will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. During construction, residents will experience traffic delays and road closures. Parking also will be restricted on those blocks during construction hours. Flaggers will direct traffic during construction.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Tim Angstadt, Vice President of Operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank officials from the City of Lancaster for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
