UGI Announces Moosic and Old Forge Infrastructure Projects

15 Aug 2018

UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin two natural gas main replacement projects – one in the borough of Moosic and one in the borough of Old Forge — beginning Monday, August 20. These projects are part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.

The Moosic natural gas main replacement project will take place on Main Street between Elm Street and Lonesome Road. UGI will be replacing 1,900 feet of gas main and renewing service lines to approximately 40 homes.

The Old Forge project will take place on Moosic Road from North Third Street to First Street. UGI will be replacing 5,000 feet of gas main and renewing service lines to approximately 90 homes.

Construction for both projects will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and are expected to be completed by the end of October.

During construction hours, roads will be restricted to one lane with flagging personnel directing traffic. Residents may experience traffic delays, traffic pattern changes, parking restrictions, and equipment parked on the street. Drivers traveling through these areas should consider alternate routes.

UGI will work to restore areas affected by the construction to their original condition.

“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during these projects. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “These projects are part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make these long-term system improvements. We also thank Moosic and Old Forge officials for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of these projects.”

UGI Utilities will spend more than $173 million in fiscal year 2018 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
