UGI Announces Prince Street Lancaster Infrastructure Project
14 Mar 2019
UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project in the City of Lancaster on Prince Street beginning the week of March 18. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative and is also scheduled ahead of a scheduled paving project by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 2020.
The natural gas main replacement project will take place on Prince Street from Seymour Street to just beyond West James Street. The project will be broken into multiple phases and will extend into mid-2020 until it is completed.
The project will also impact the following streets:
- Hager Street, from Prince Street to Beaver Street;
- West Vine Street, from Prince Street to Beaver Street;
- West Lemon Street, from Prince Street to North Water Street.
UGI will work block-by-block on this project. Two crews will work on this project simultaneously. One crew will begin at Seymour Street beginning the week of March 18. The other crew will begin at Orange Street beginning the week of March 25.
Both crews will work north, with one exception. The crew beginning at Orange Street will return south and work from King Street to Orange Street during the time that Fulton Theater productions are on a late summer break, from late July to mid-September. Construction on each block is expected to last approximately one-to-two months.
This project will also renew gas service lines to approximately 262 homes and businesses.
During construction, blocks on affected streets will be restricted to one lane of traffic. Parking also will be eliminated on those blocks during construction hours. Construction hours in the work zone from Seymour Street to King Street will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Construction hours in the work zone from King Street to West James Street will run through the evening and night-time from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with service line work occurring from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“UGI recognizes area residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Timothy Angstadt, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank officials from Lancaster for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
UGI Utilities will spend more than $187.5 million in fiscal year 2019 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
