UGI Announces Wilkes-Barre Infrastructure Project
23 Jul 2020
UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project in the City of Wilkes-Barre and Wilkes-Barre Township beginning Monday, July 27. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.
The project will install nearly 1,400 feet of natural gas main on East Northampton Street between Route 309 and Empire Street. The project will also renew gas service lines to 13 homes and businesses.
Construction hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. As work on the project progresses, UGI may expand construction hours to include Saturdays.
During construction, residents will experience traffic delays and lane closures. Parking also will be restricted on those blocks during construction hours. Flaggers will direct traffic during construction.
UGI recommends motorists traveling in the area consider using alternate routes into and out of the city. The Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department will be posting alternate route information on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WBTPD.
The pipeline project is expected to be completed by early October. Road restoration is expected to be completed in the fall following completion of the project but may be delayed based on weather conditions.
