UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin a natural gas main replacement project on Franklin Street in the City of Wilkes-Barre beginning this week. This project is part of the Company’s multi-year infrastructure betterment initiative.
The natural gas main replacement project will take place on North and South Franklin Street from West Union Street to West South Street. The initial phase of the project will impact North Franklin Street from West Union Street to West Market Street.
UGI’s Franklin Street project will replace 4,150 feet of gas main and renew gas service lines to 35 customers. The project is expected to last approximately four months.
Construction will include both daytime and evening hours, depending on the phase of the project and the potential impact on traffic.
During construction hours, residents may experience traffic delays, traffic pattern changes, temporary parking restrictions and equipment parked on the street. Drivers traveling through the area should consider alternate routes.
UGI will work to restore areas affected by the construction to their original condition.
“UGI recognizes Wilkes-Barre residents will be inconvenienced during this project. We will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we make this long-term system improvement. We also thank Wilkes-Barre officials for their cooperation and assistance in the planning and execution of this project.”
UGI Utilities will spend more than $173 million in fiscal year 2018 to replace approximately 64 miles of natural gas mains and complete a variety of system enhancement projects.
