Reading, PA – UGI Utilities, Inc., will recognize the commitment of its employees to the communities served by the company during National Volunteer Week, which begins Sunday, April 12.
UGI employees devoted more than 46,000 hours of volunteer service in 2014, benefiting organizations such as Reading Is Fundamental® (RIF), the United Way, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, local food banks and many other local and regional organizations.
In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, UGI employees will donate to Make-A-Wish® chapters throughout the company’s 45-county Pennsylvania service territory. UGI is providing corporate funding to grant the wishes of three children, while the goal of the employee campaign is to grant at least two more wishes.
“We are so appreciative of UGI’s continued support,’’ said Maggie O’Brien, Regional Manager – Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. “These funds will help provide a magical wish experience for local kids with life-threatening medical conditions. This has been shown to help them feel stronger, more energetic and more willing to fight their medical condition.’’

During National Volunteer Week, UGI will hold special book distributions to reinforce its highly successful and unique motivational reading partnership with the RIF children’s literacy organization. One event is scheduled for Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. at the Keystone Central School District Woodward Elementary School, 35 King St., Lock Haven.
