UGI Central Penn Gas Announces Customer Credit in January Bill

19 Nov 2009

Reading, PA – UGI Central Penn Gas announced that more than 76,000 customers will receive a one-time refund through a credit on their January bill due to a significant reduction in natural gas prices. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved UGI’s request to refund more than $13.1 million to customers’ accounts, based on the amount of natural gas purchased from UGI
between December 1, 2008 and November 30, 2009.

Average residential retail heating customers who use 6.5 dekatherms of natural gas per month will receive a refund of approximately $123.37 in their January bills. The typical commercial retail customer using 29 dekatherms per month will receive a refund of approximately $542.83, while a typical industrial retail customer using 171 dekatherms per month will receive a refund of approximately $3,158.26.

“We recognize how difficult current economic conditions have been on our customers,” Peter Terranova, UGI vice president, said. “We are pleased to be able to pass on these substantial savings. By adding a lump-sum refund to customers’ bills in January, we are able to get this money to our customers much more quickly than with the traditional rate adjustment process. We applaud the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission for approving our request.”

This refund comes on top of UGI CPG price reductions in each quarter this last year. In fact, a monthly bill for an average residential customer is $93.76, which is approximately 25 percent less than the average residential bill a year ago.

To be eligible for a refund, a customer must have purchased natural gas from UGI Central Penn Gas for at least one month from December 1, 2008 through November 30, 2009. Amounts will vary based on each customer’s actual usage during this refund period.
