UGI Central Penn Gas Decreases Natural Gas Rates Effective March 1, 2015

READING, PA, March 2, 2015 — UGI Central Penn Gas (UGI CPG) announced today that customers’ purchased gas cost rates decreased effective March 1, 2015 due to lower wholesale natural gas costs. As a result, an average residential heating customer’s bill is estimated to decrease approximately 4.8 percent, from $84.67 to $80.58 per month.

“UGI is pleased to announce a reduction in our purchased gas costs for our customers, especially following the extreme cold temperatures experienced in the second half of the winter heating season,” said UGI Utilities Vice President of Rates Paul Szykman. “Combined with our most recent rate decrease in December 2014, the estimated March 1 decrease will result in an average natural gas bill for a residential customer that is approximately 39.4% lower than in 2008.”

By law, utilities cannot earn a profit on the natural gas commodity portion of a customer’s bill. They are required to pass the cost of the natural gas they purchase directly through to customers without any markup. Purchased gas cost rates may be adjusted quarterly.

Natural gas is an extremely clean fuel with significantly lower carbon emissions compared to oil or coal-fired electric generation. UGI provides information to customers promoting the safe use and conservation of energy. Conserving energy is both good for the planet and can help reduce household bills.

Finally, any customer who is behind on their gas bill should contact UGI CPG at 1-800-652-0550 as soon as possible to discuss a payment arrangement.
