UGI Central Penn Gas to Decrease Natural Gas Costs on December 1, 2015

READING, PA – UGI Central Penn Gas (UGI) announced its purchased gas cost rates will decrease on December 1, 2015. As a result, the average residential heating customer’s bill will drop by 3.2 percent.

This gas cost decrease means an average bill will decline from $78.96 per month to $76.41 per month. When combined with previously announced gas cost decreases in March and June, residential customers will pay about $9 less per month than they did last winter.

“More than 90 percent of UGI’s natural gas supplies now come from Marcellus shale. Our customers are benefitting from this locally produced, plentiful, and lower cost supply,” Paul Szykman, vice president of rates at UGI, said. “This is the seventh year of a trend of moderating prices. Customer bills are more than 40 percent less than they were at their peak.”

By law, utilities are required to pass the cost of the natural gas they purchase directly through to customers without any markup.

Despite lower costs, UGI recognizes some customers may have trouble paying their winter heating bill. All customers are encouraged to sign up for UGI’s free budget billing program, which spreads bills out over a 12-month period.

In addition, customers with a limited or fixed income should call UGI at 1-800-UGI-WARM to determine if they are eligible for one of several energy assistance programs. Finally, any customer who is behind on their gas bills should contact the utility as soon as possible to discuss a payment arrangement.
