UGI Electric Division Continues to Make Progress in Restoring Service to Customers

Wilkes-Barre (July 11, 2014 – 9:00 a.m.) – More than 13,500 UGI Utilities – Electric Division customers have had their service restored since restoration efforts began on July 8.  Currently, approximately 1,400 UGI customers remain without power.

UGI crews are working side-by-side with contractor crews loaned from Northeast Utilities, FirstEnergy Corporation and PPL Electric Utilities to restore service to customers.  Contractor firms assisting in the restoration include I.B. Abel from Pennsylvania, MTV Solutions and Riggs Distler from Connecticut,  and J. Wm. Foley from New Jersey.

At this time, UGI expects 99 percent of customers affected by the outage to be restored to service by Friday evening.  The widespread nature of the damage and the significant number of trees and wires down across the UGI service territory continue to impact restoration timeframes.

UGI has joined with the American Red Cross – Northeast PA Region to provide a Cooling Station for affected customers at the Lehman Municipal Building.  Customers can pick up ice and water, and recharge electronic devices at this location. In addition, shower facilities are available.  The Lehman Cooling Station will be open on Friday, July 11 beginning 8 a.m. and will remain open during daytime hours as needed. The Lehman Municipal Building is located at 1183 Old Route 115, Lehman, PA 18627.

Customers experiencing an outage should contact UGI at (800) 276-2722. UGI requests an outage report be made one time, so Customer Service Representatives can address all customer calls as promptly as possible.

However, if a customer’s power is restored and power is lost again, the customer is asked to please contact UGI to report this outage. Customers seeking additional information on the UGI Electric outage can visit the UGI website at www.ugi.com/outages.

If you are a residential customer with special needs and have an emergency, please contact your regional 911 center. Special needs customers calling UGI to report an outage should identify themselves to the customer service representative. UGI can provide information to assist you in connecting to your local 911 center. You can contact UGI at (800) 276-2722.

Safety is a priority at UGI. We remind customers and community members to always avoid downed power lines. In the event of an electrical emergency, customers are advised to call UGI Electric immediately.

If you use a generator during an outage, please make sure it is used safely by following the manufacturer’s instructions on proper venting and operation.
