UGI Electric Division Restores Power to Nearly Seven Thousand Customers

Wilkes-Barre (July 9, 2014 – 8:00 p.m.) – UGI Utilities – Electric Division crews restored power to nearly 7,000 customers on Wednesday. At this time, some 8,000 UGI customers remain without power. UGI crews continue to work diligently to restore service to all affected customers. Significant effort is being put into removing trees, repairing damaged equipment and preparing sites for necessary repair work.
Forty additional linemen from Northeast Utilities in Connecticut have arrived to assist in the restoration effort, and will join UGI crews first thing Thursday morning. UGI is actively soliciting additional lineman from other companies to assist in restoration efforts.
At this time, UGI expects 90 percent of customers affected by the outage to be restored to service by Friday evening. The widespread nature of the damage and the significant number of trees and wires down across the UGI service territory are impacting restoration timeframes.
UGI has joined with the American Red Cross – Northeast PA Region and is providing a cooling station in the cafeteria of the West Side Career and Technology Center (West Side Tech High School). Water, snacks, bags of ice, charging stations for electronic devices and showering facilities are available for affected customers until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9. The cooling station will also be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10.

Customers experiencing an outage should contact UGI at (800) 276-2722. UGI requests an outage report be made one time, so Customer Service Representatives can address all customer calls as promptly as possible. Special needs customers calling UGI to report an outage should identify themselves to the customer service representative. If you use a generator during an outage, please make sure it is used safely by following the manufacturer’s instructions on proper venting and operation.
