UGI Penn Natural Gas Requests 10% Rate Decrease for December 1, 2009

Reading, PA (May 15, 2009) – UGI Penn Natural Gas (UGI PNG) announced that on June 1, the utility will submit its annual filing with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to establish purchased gas cost rates for December 1, 2009.  If UGI PNG’s request is approved, the average residential heating customer’s bill will decrease by 10% on December 1 due to lower wholesale natural gas prices.

UGI PNG most recently decreased rates by 5.5% on March 1, 2009 and also by 3% on December 1, 2008.  If UGI PNG’s proposed December rates are approved as filed, the average residential heating bill will be 15% lower on December 1, 2009 than one year earlier.  According to Peter G. Terranova, Vice President of Marketing & Supply, “We are extremely pleased to be passing these saving on to our customers, especially during these difficult economic times.”

If UGI PNG’s proposed December rates are approved, the bill for a typical residential retail heating customer who uses about 89 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of natural gas per month will decrease from $130.68 per month to $117.80 on December 1.  The bill for a typical commercial retail customer using 26.2 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) per month will decrease from $350.79 per month to $312.85.  The bill for a typical industrial retail customer using 295 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) per month will decrease from $3,549.74 per month to $3,122.72.
