UGI Penn Natural Gas Requests 4.5% Rate Decrease for December 1, 2012

17 May 2012

Reading, PA (May 17, 2012) – UGI Penn Natural Gas (UGI PNG) announced that on June 1, the utility will submit its annual filing with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to establish purchased gas cost rates for December 1, 2012. If UGI PNG’s request is approved, the average residential heating customer’s bill will decrease by 4.5% on December 1 due to lower wholesale natural gas prices.

UGI PNG most recently decreased rates by 4.5% on March 1, 2012 and also by 9% on December 1, 2011.

Currently, the average monthly bill for UGI PNG customers is 40% lower than it was 4 years ago. The projected December 1 decrease is a continuation of that trend.

According to Vicki O. Ebner, Senior Vice President, Customer & Government Relations, “An abundant supply of natural gas is allowing us to continue to pass these savings onto our customers. Thanks in part to Marcellus Shale production, natural gas prices are at historic lows. There has never been a better time to have natural gas for your home or business needs. Customers can save up to $1,500 per year by converting to natural gas.”

If UGI PNG’s proposed December rates are approved, the bill for a typical residential retail heating customer who uses about 89 hundred cubic feet (ccf) of natural gas per month will decrease from $94.50 per month to $90.25 on December 1. The bill for a typical commercial retail customer using 26.2 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) per month will decrease from $226.33 per month to $214.31. The bill for a typical industrial retail customer using 405 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) per month will decrease from $3,029.12 per month to $2,844.19.

Customers may call UGI PNG at 1-800-276-2722 to receive further information on the proposed rates. Any customer who is struggling to pay their gas bills should contact UGI PNG to determine if they are eligible for one of several energy assistance programs or discuss a payment arrangement for any past due balances.
