UGI Penn Natural Gas to Begin Infrastructure Project on Old Berwick Road

READING, PA, July 21, 2014 – UGI Penn Natural Gas will begin a natural gas main construction project on Old Berwick Road in Bloomsburg, Scott Township and South Centre Township on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

The project will extend from the 1000 to the 4700 block of Old Berwick Road, from Industrial Drive in Bloomsburg to Central Columbia High School in South Centre Township.  Natural gas main replacement construction will generally be performed from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Motorists should expect traffic delays during construction hours.

Construction is expected to take approximately four to five months.

Customers should be aware that gas service line and meter work associated with individual homes and businesses will also be performed as part of the construction project during those times.  UGI will require access into homes and businesses along the route when service line work is conducted.

“UGI recognizes that some residents will be inconvenienced during this project and will work to complete construction in a timely manner,” Robert P. Krieger, vice president of operations, said. “This project is part of UGI’s continuing commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers and our communities and we appreciate our customers’ and the community’s understanding as we make these long-term system improvements. We also thank Bloomsburg, Scott Township and South Centre Township for their cooperation and assistance in planning and executing these efforts.”

This construction project also provides an opportunity for homes and businesses without natural gas service to convert to natural gas. Homeowners who convert can save more than $1,500 per year in energy bills. UGI encourages those along the project route to contact the company at (800) 276-2722 if they are interested in converting to natural gas during construction.

UGI is a natural gas and electric utility company that serves approximately 660,000 customers.
