UGI PNG Bills to Increase 2.9 Percent on March 1, 2008

Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 29, 2008) – UGI Penn Natural Gas (UGI PNG) announced today that its purchased gas cost rates will increase slightly on March 1, 2008. As a result, the average esidential heating customer’s bill will increase by approximately 2.9 percent from $143.54 to $147.74 per month.

This increase follows a one percent purchased gas cost rate decrease in December 2007.

According to Vicki Ebner, vice president of marketing and gas supply, “UGI PNG makes every effort to keep our rates as low as possible, especially during the winter months. However, ultimately our rates must reflect our actual costs for the gas we purchase on behalf of our customers. We are adjusting our rates at this time due to higher wholesale prices for natural gas.”

By law, utilities cannot earn a profit on the natural gas commodity portion of a customer’s bill. They are required to pass the cost of the natural gas they purchase directly through to customers without any markup. Purchased gas cost rates may be adjusted quarterly.

UGI PNG encourages customers to use energy wisely and offers a number of programs to help customers manage their energy bills. Customers with a limited or fixed income should call UGI at 1-888-829-8611 to determine if they are eligible for one of several energy assistance programs. Meanwhile, any customer who is behind on their gas bills should contact UGI PNG soon as possible to discuss a payment arrangement.
