UGI PNG Helps Customers Apply for Heating Grants

01 Nov 2010

Wilkes-Barre, PA (November 1, 2007) – UGI Penn Natural Gas (UGI PNG) is helping eligible customers apply for federal energy assistance dollars to keep their homes warm this winter. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grants, which do not need to be repaid, help customers with limited or fixed incomes pay their heating bills, repair or replace a heater and avoid utility service shut off.  Last winter over 18,100 UGI PNG customers received money from this fund.  The average grant was $248.

Funds are limited and available on a first come first served basis, starting November 5th, so UGI PNG urges customers to apply as soon as possible.  For more information on federal energy assistance, customers should call UGI PNG toll free at 1-888-829-8611 or 1-800-432-8017.  UGI PNG will provide information on the application process and assistance completing and submitting the required forms. To qualify for funds a customer must provide proof of income, a recent heating bill, and the name, birth date and Social Security number for each person in his or her household.  A table of qualifying income levels is attached.

At any time of the year, UGI PNG customers who have a problem paying their utility bill are encouraged to contact UGI PNG promptly to discuss payment arrangements and receive information on the utility’s own assistance programs.  Qualified low-income customers may receive grants from UGI PNG’s Project Outreach, reduced bills based on a percentage of income, or free home weatherization services.

UGI Penn Natural Gas, Inc., headquartered in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, is a wholly owned subsidiary of UGI Utilities, Inc.  UGI PNG serves approximately 158,000 customers in 13 counties throughout northeastern and central Pennsylvania.  For more information, visit www.ugipng.com.
