UGI Records Historic Send-Out of Natural Gas During Extreme Cold Weather
07 Feb 2019
UGI Utilities, Inc. experienced an all-time record for natural gas deliveries during the 24-hour period between January 30 and January 31. UGI distributed more than 1.63 billion cubic feet of natural gas to customers between 10 a.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday, the time frame UGI uses to define a “gas day.”
A billion cubic feet of natural gas produces 1.3 trillion BTUs of energy, enough energy to typically supply about five million U.S. homes for a day.
“UGI’s natural gas system performed admirably during this period of cold weather,” Hans Bell, UGI Chief Operating Officer, said. “More than 640,000 customers across Pennsylvania who depend on UGI for their natural gas stayed warm during the coldest weather we have experienced this winter season.”
UGI’s record performance on January 30-31 exceeded a record the Company had only just set the previous week when it delivered 1.44 billion cubic feet of natural gas on January 21-22. UGI also had near-record natural gas deliveries on January 31-February 1 as well, when 1.52 billion cubic feet of natural gas was delivered to customers.
UGI’s previous natural gas peak day record was recorded on January 5, 2018, when 1.43 billion cubic feet of natural gas was delivered to customers.
