Reading, PA (March 5, 2007) – UGI Utilities, Inc., reminds customers that FREE federal energy assistance grants are still available to eligible households who are struggling to pay their winter heating bills.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps customers with limited or fixed incomes pay their heating bills, repair or replace a heater, avoid utility service shut off or restore service. Both homeowners and renters are eligible. Any customer who has received a utility shut off notice should apply for a LIHEAP crisis grant immediately. The program is scheduled to close on March 22, 2007 and funds are available on a first come first served basis.
For more information on LIHEAP, customers should call UGI’s Customer Outreach department at 1-800-UGI-WARM (1-800-844-9276). UGI will provide information on eligibility requirements and the application process as well as assistance completing and submitting the required forms. To qualify for funds a customer must provide proof of income, a recent heating bill, and the name, birth date and Social Security number for each person in his or her household. A table of qualifying income levels is attached.
At any time of the year, UGI customers who have a problem paying their utility bill are encouraged to contact UGI promptly to discuss payment arrangements and receive information on UGI’s energy assistance programs. In addition to LIHEAP grants, qualified low-income customers may also receive grants from UGI’s Operation Share Energy Fund, reduced bills through the Company’s Low Income Self Help Program (LISHP), or free home weatherization services to help lower energy bills long-term.
UGI Utilities’ headquarters is located in Reading, PA. The utility serves 315,000 natural gas customers in 15 southeastern PA counties and 62,000 electric customers in portions of Luzerne and Wyoming counties. Additional information about UGI is available at www.ugi.com.
