UGI to Conduct Gas Main Work on Wednesday, September 30
29 Sep 2020
UGI will purge a natural gas main on Wednesday, September 30 as part of an infrastructure replacement project in the City of Lancaster.
When a natural gas pipeline is retired from service, the line must be purged of the remaining natural gas. Approximately 3,000 feet of pipeline is being retired as it has been replaced with a new main made of contemporary materials.
Purging activity will take place within the current construction zone on the following streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
- Clay Street to Frederick Street;
- Frederick Street to James Street;
- Spruce Street to Lemon Street;
- Madison Street to Lemon Street;
An orange scented masking agent will be used during the process. Residents may detect this scent or an odor of natural gas, which smells similar to rotten eggs, during this process. Residents with concerns or questions can contact UGI at (800) 276-2722.
