UGI Utilities – Gas Division Provides Progress Update and Expands Scope of North 3rd Street Infrastructure Betterment Project

READING, PA, August 9, 2013 – The North 3rd Street, Harrisburg, natural gas main replacement project conducted by UGI Utilities – Gas Division continues to progress through the city utilizing an evening construction schedule from Sunday evening through Thursday morning.
UGI has completed work on North 3rd Street from Strawberry to State Streets. In the next week, UGI will be working between State Street and North Street.
In addition, UGI has expanded the scope of the construction project and will also be working on the block of North Street directly adjoining North 3rd Street and the block of Commonwealth Avenue just off North Street.
Later in the project timetable, UGI will also replace a gas main on Forster Street from Commonwealth Avenue to the Labor and Industry Building.
Construction is performed during the evening hours from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses located within the construction zone. If inclement weather prevents construction on a scheduled work day, work for that week will be extended to Friday morning. Construction will not affect Friday or Saturday evening activities
This project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative. UGI’s 2013 infrastructure betterment plan calls for the Company to spend approximately $71.1 million to replace an additional 63 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains, in addition to completing a variety of system enhancement projects. The 3rd Street project will replace a cast iron main with high-density plastic and cathodically-protected steel.
