01 Jul 2013
READING, PA, June 28, 2013 – The North 3rd Street, Harrisburg, natural gas main replacement project by UGI Utilities – Gas Division continues to progress as crews move north through the city. UGI will now begin work on the third block of this project.
UGI has completed work from Strawberry Street to the 3rd and Locust Street intersection. Beginning the evening of Sunday June 30, UGI will commence work at the intersection and move toward Cranberry Alley.
Work will be performed during the evening hours from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses within the construction zone.
In a typical week, construction will take place from Sunday evening through Thursday morning. If inclement weather does not allow construction to take place on one of those work days, work for that week will be extended to Friday morning. Construction will not affect Friday or Saturday evening activities. During this phase of the project, UGI will close North 3rd Street between Walnut Street and Cranberry Alley during construction hours and re-open the street to traffic during daytime hours.
This project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative. UGI’s 2013 infrastructure betterment plan calls for the Company to spend approximately $71.1 million to replace an additional 63 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains, in addition to completing a variety of system enhancement projects. The 3rd Street project will replace a cast iron main with high-density plastic and cathodically-protected steel.
UGI is a natural gas and electric utility company that serves approximately 648,000 customers.
