READING, PA, September 16, 2013 – The North 3rd Street, Harrisburg, natural gas main replacement project conducted by UGI Utilities – Gas Division is nearly completed. Weather and other circumstances permitting, the Company expects to complete the project by the end of September.
UGI has completed main replacement on North 3rd Street from Strawberry to Forster Streets, as well as on North Street, Commonwealth Avenue and Forster Street from Commonwealth Avenue to the Labor and Industry Building. Service tie-ins are currently taking place above North Street.
Main construction is currently taking place in Oliver Alley and Briggs Street directly off North 3rd Street. In addition, a short main replacement project will take place on Forster Street between North 3rd Street and North 2nd Street.
UGI continues to schedule construction during the evening hours from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses located within the construction zone. UGI crews typically work from Sunday evening through Thursday morning.
The UGI 3d Street Harrisburg project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative. UGI’s 2013 infrastructure betterment plan calls for the Company to spend approximately $71.1 million to replace an additional 63 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains, in addition to completing a variety of system enhancement projects. The 3rd Street project will replace a cast iron main with high-density plastic and cathodically-protected steel.
