UGI Utilities – Gas Division Provides Update to North 3rd Street Infrastructure Betterment Project

READING, PA, August 28, 2013 – The North 3rd Street, Harrisburg, natural gas main replacement project conducted by UGI Utilities – Gas Division is in its final phase.  Weather and other circumstances permitting, the Company expects to complete the project by early October.

UGI has completed work on North 3rd Street from Strawberry to North Streets.  Construction is currently under way in the North 3rd Street and North Street intersection. Once completed, UGI will commence work between North Street and Briggs Street, as well as on Oliver Alley.

In addition, UGI has completed construction on North Street between North 3rd Street and Commonwealth Avenue.  Construction continues on Commonwealth Avenue between North Street and Forster Street.

The final phase of the project also includes replacement of the natural gas main on Forster Street from Commonwealth Avenue to the Labor and Industry Building.

UGI continues to schedule construction during the evening hours from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to minimize disruption to traffic and businesses located within the construction zone. UGI will be altering it work schedule on the week of September 1 to accommodate Labor Day festivities. UGI crews will divert from their normal Sunday evening through Thursday morning schedule, and will work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings that week.

The UGI 3d Street Harrisburg project is part of the Company’s multi-year $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative. UGI’s 2013 infrastructure betterment plan calls for the Company to spend approximately $71.1 million to replace an additional 63 miles of cast iron and bare steel mains, in addition to completing a variety of system enhancement projects. The 3rd Street project will replace a cast iron main with high-density plastic and cathodically-protected steel.
