Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 28, 2012, 11:00 a.m.) – Current weather predictions indicate Hurricane Sandy has the potential to impact the UGI Electric Division service area Sunday evening, October 28, and continue through Monday and Tuesday. Customers are again reminded that Hurricane Sandy could bring high winds that may cause downed power lines and power outages. Sandy is also expected to bring significant amounts of rainfall that may lead to flooding.
UGI has mobilized its Storm Response Team and is prepared to respond to storm-related power outages. UGI’s Electric Division has secured additional linemen and support personnel that will put more than 150 field personnel, as well as support staff ing, in the field. These additional crews will more than double our normal field resources.
Mutual assistance crews departed their staging area in Kansas this morning and are expected to arrive in Northeast PA on Monday. UGI is continuing to hold planning meetings throughout the weekend.
UGI has assembled materials to support service restoration activities, including replacement wire, poles and transformers. UGI will be working closely with 911 and emergency response organizations throughout the storm. UGI again reminds customers to call 800-276-2722 should they experience a power outage.
If you depend on electric-powered medical equipment for life-support, we recommend that you purchase a back-up power supply or arrange to stay with family or friends.
If you are a residential customer with special needs and have an emergency, please contact your regional 911 center. Special needs customers calling UGI to report an outage should identify themselves as such to the customer service representative. UGI can provide information to assist you in connecting to your local 911 center.
If you use a generator during an outage, please make sure it is used safely by following the manufacturer’s instructions on proper venting and operation.
