UGI continues to restore natural gas service to Wilkes Barre area customers impacted by a natural gas service outage. Currently, UGI has restored heating to more than 60 customers. UGI crews are restoring heat and hot water service on a house-by house basis and will continue to work through the evening.
UGI expects full restoration of customers in the incident area to take several days. UGI reminds customers in the affected area that Company crews will need to gain access to affected homes multiple times to fully restore natural gas service. Customers who cannot be home and need to communicate special access instructions to UGI, are asked to call UGI’s Call Center at 1-800-276-2722.
UGI has opened a customer contact point at 450 S. Empire Street in Wilkes Barre for individuals whose homes or properties were affected by the incident. UGI personnel will be available at the customer contact point on Empire St. from 10 AM until 8 PM until further notice. Customers affected by this incident are reminded they can call with any inquiries on a 24-hour basis at 1-800-276-2722.
UGI continues to use Company field crews from across its service territory to assist in the restoration effort. UGI has enlisted qualified HVAC and utility contractors to support both the system restoration efforts as well as the inspection and assessment of customer fuel lines and equipment to ensure their safe operation. UGI is repairing or replacing any damaged customer-owned gas appliances or equipment as necessary that were impacted by this incident.
UGI reminds customers that under no circumstances should they attempt to turn their natural gas service back on their own.
Customers are reminded that if they smell gas they should immediately leave the building and call UGI at 1-800-276-2722 from a safe location.
