UPDATE – UGI Electric Power Outage

07 Sep 2011

Reading, PA (September 7, 2011) – UGI Electric crews have nearly completed restoring service to customers who lost power after the hurricane force winds delivered catastrophic damage to segments of the electric distribution network on Sunday, August 28. Originally, more than 32,000 customers lost power due to Hurricane Irene.

UGI thanks all of its customers for their patience during this difficult and challenging time. Please be assured that our crews have worked around the clock to restore service as quickly as possible in the aftermath of the historic damage caused by this storm.

Today, Wednesday September 7, 2011 the Electric Division restoration teams will focus all resources on restoring the remaining handful of customers left without power.

However, the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, which is impacting the area now, is hindering  restoration efforts and may cause additional outages. Field technicians and repair crews remain on extended shifts and will continue to repair customer outage areas.

UGI is committed to making outbound calls and personal visits if required to reach all remaining customers who are without power. If a customer is still without power from Hurricane Irene and has not received either a phone contact or a site visit by this afternoon, they should contact UGI’s call center immediately at (800) 276-2722.

UGI is also offering special bill payment services to customers who have been affected by the extended power outage, including extended payment arrangements.  Customers who may have difficulty paying their utility bill because of loss of work due to the power outage, or who may have an additional financial hardship due to the hurricane should contact UGI.

Safety is a priority at UGI. We remind customers and community members to always avoid downed power lines and stay away from any electrical equipment that is partially or totally submerged in water. In the event of an electrical emergency, customers are advised to contact UGI Electric immediately.

UGI Electric is a division of UGI Utilities, Inc., which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UGI Corporation, based in Valley Forge. Additional information about UGI Electric is available at www.ugi.com.
