We Are UGI: Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month

30 Oct 2024

In the United States, according to the American Cancer Society, over 300,000 women have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2024. On average, breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women at some point in their life.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, UGI Utilities employees came together to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Employees participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk events at City Island in Harrisburg and ArtsQuest in Bethlehem as part of our UGI Energizers team. Thousands of community members came together to walk in honor of survivors, those who are currently battling cancer, and those who lost their battle.

“I walk for my sister, who is a survivor, and for all thriving through the disease,” says Rose W. who participated in the walk along with her sister. “Participating in this event is valuable to me because, I get to do it with my sister. The importance of cancer awareness is to educate and understand the impact of the disease. I will continue to support this great cause and I encourage others to participate in this event to raise awareness and funds to end breast cancer.”

Employees also participated in a variety of fundraising activities in support of breast cancer research, such as purchasing pink beanies, flowers, and tickets for raffle baskets. In addition, the UGI Women’s Impact Network (WIN), which is an employee resource group that aims to inspire women and offer professional and personal development opportunities, held “Pink Out” events across the company. At various office locations, pink t-shirts were sold, with proceeds benefitting American Cancer Society, The Gathering Place and Paint the Planet Pink. Collectively through the t-shirt sales and the generosity of our employees from UGI Utilities, UGI Energy Services, AmeriGas, and UGI Corporation, over $7,000 was raised in support of breast cancer research. We thank every employee for their support in raising funds and awareness!
