How to Clear Browser Cache for Different Browsers

What is browser cache and why do I need to clear it?


Your browser will automatically store (cache) temporary website database files when you have recently visited a site to avoid having to load the content each time, making your browsing experience run smoother and faster. However, it can become an issue when changes are made to a site, and your browser is still caching the older version.

Clearing your browser cache is a simple fix to resolve this issue. See below on how to clear browser cache for the following browsers:

Once your cache is cleared, you’ll need to close your browser window and reopen.

Windows Desktop – Chrome

  1. Click the three vertical dots icon three vertical dots icon in the top right of your browser. In dropdown menu, go to More tools > Clear browsing data. (Shortcut: CTRL + SHIFT + DEL)
  2. A Clear browsing data box will pop up.
  3. Uncheck all boxes, except “Cached images and files.”
  4. Change Time Range dropdown to “All Time.”
  5. Click Clear Data button. Cache is cleared.

Windows Desktop – Firefox

  1. Click the hamburger icon  three lines hamburger menu icon in the top right of your browser. Select History > then Clear Recent History. (Shortcut: CTRL + SHIFT + DEL)
  2. A Clear Recent History box will pop up.
  3. Uncheck all boxes, except “Cache.”
  4. Change Time range to clear dropdown to “Everything.”
  5. Click Clear Now button. Cache is cleared.

Windows Desktop – Edge

  1. Click the three horizontal dots icon three horizontal dots icon  in the top right of your browser. Select History.
  2. Click the three horizontal dots icon in the History popup menu.
  3. Click Clear browsing data.
  4. Uncheck all boxes, except “Cached images and files.”
  5. Change Time range dropdown to “All time.”
  6. Click Clear Now button. Cache is cleared.

Mac Desktop – Safari

  1. Click Safari in the top menu to open dropdown menu.
  2. Click Clear History.
  3. A window will pop up.
  4. Change Clear dropdown to “all history.”
  5. Click Clear History button. Cache is cleared. This option will also clear your browser history and site data.

Mobile – Safari

  1. Open Settings app on your iPhone. Scroll down to click Safari in the Settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to click “Clear History and Website Data.”
  3. Click Clear History and Data that pops up at the bottom of screen.
  4. You can select “Close Tabs” or “Keep Tabs” but make sure to close the ugi.com tab you may currently have open. Cache is cleared. This option will also clear your browser history and site data.

Mobile – Chrome

  1. In the Chrome browser app, click the More three dots icon.
  2. Click History > Clear Browsing Data.
  3. Uncheck all boxes, except “Cached images and files.”
  4. Change Time Range dropdown to “All Time.”
  5. Click Clear Browsing Data button and click it again when it pops up. Cache is cleared.
