Know the Smell of Natural Gas​

By nature, natural gas occurs without odor or color. To make natural gas detectable, a chemical known as Mercaptan is added. Mercaptan has a smell similar to rotten eggs.

UGI Utilities sends out free scratch and sniff brochures every year in the mail to help customers recognize the unique smell of natural gas. If you detect this odor, please move at least the length of a football field away from the building before contacting UGI immediately at 800-276-2722.
