We Are UGI: Going Over the Edge for Big Brothers Big Sisters

16 Oct 2026

UGI Utilities is proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central Pennsylvania to bring the Beyond School Walls program to UGI’s headquarters in Denver, PA. The program matches Cocalico High School students with UGI employees to help the students build confidence, develop professional skills, explore career opportunities, and interact with classmates in a real-world office setting.

Todd D., who is a mentor in the UGI Beyond School Walls program, recently took his support of Big Brothers Big Sisters to new heights by participating in the organization’s Over the Edge event.

Over the Edge is a fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters in which dedicated volunteers raise a fundraising goal and then go “over the edge” by rappelling down the side of a building.

“I am not a fan of heights, but I committed to doing this and it shows the students how important it is to have the courage to push yourself beyond your comfort zone. After the fact, it was all worth it!” said Todd.

Todd rappelled 18 stories down from the roof of Market Square Plaza in downtown Harrisburg. Luckily, he didn’t have to do it alone. A Cocalico High School student in UGI’s Beyond School Walls program made the descent with Todd. The pair chatted on their way down, took in the scenery, and enjoyed the cheering from supporters at the watch party across the street.

“The students in UGI’s Beyond School Walls program have told me how they really look forward to coming to our office to meet with us. I truly believe they have helped me at least as much as I have helped them. I have come to realize that sometimes all our children need is someone to just listen. BBBS and their volunteers can be there for that and so much more, creating bonds that can last a lifetime and reshape their trajectory beyond imagination,” Todd says.

Thank you to Todd for being a dedicated mentor and supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters!
