Replacing Your Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) Device

Automated Meter Reading devices, also knowns as Encoder Receiver Transmitters or ERTs, are electronic devices attached to utility meters that record consumption data and broadcast it wirelessly. They allow utility companies to collect usage readings remotely without needing to physically access or enter a customer’s property.

Automated Meter Reading devices have an expected lifespan of 17 to 20 years. Many of the devices throughout the UGI Utilities territory are approaching or have reached the end of their useful life.

As a result, UGI will be replacing many ERTs in the coming years to prevent device failure, which could interfere with remote meter reading, cause billing disruptions, and/or require manual meter reads.

Schedule Your ERT Replacement

If you recently received a letter explaining that your Automated Meter Reading device needs to be replaced, please schedule your appointment as soon as possible by calling our partner Precision Pipeline Solutions at 844-307-4047.

There is no charge for Precision Pipeline Solutions to replace ERT devices, and there will be no interruption to natural gas service. During the appointment, the representative will check natural gas piping and meters for safety and accuracy, including:

Verification of the integrity of our natural gas service line.
Inspection of natural gas piping and meters for leaks.
Confirmation that the meter is accurately recording your usage.

If your meter is located inside your home or business, someone over the age of 18 must be available to provide access to the meter.
