UGI Employees’ Quick Actions Save Lives at Crash Scene
30 Sep 2025
“Without hesitation, they fought for these people for two hours, doing everything they could.”
That is how Erik Taylor, a UGI Senior Supervisor of Operations, describes the efforts of a group of UGI Utilities employees who came upon a crash after leaving their Port Allegany, McKean County office on August 15.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, a vehicle sideswiped another vehicle and then hit a pickup truck head-on along Route 6. The truck rolled down an embankment and caught fire with two people still inside.
“Some of the guys got fire extinguishers out of their trucks and fought the fire nonstop, while two others broke the sunroof of the truck to get the people out,” says Taylor.
The man pulled from the burning truck suffered serious injuries. His passenger and the driver of the sideswiped vehicle were not seriously injured.
The UGI workers also helped emergency responders in the rescue attempt to free a driver from the other vehicle. The trapped driver was pulled from the vehicle, but tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
