UGI Welcomes Berks County First Responders to Learning Center

13 May 2025

First responders are among UGI’s most critical partners when it comes to the safe distribution of natural gas and electricity.

UGI regularly provides online and in-person training sessions for first responders across its service territory.

Recently, when fire companies requested safety training, UGI welcomed them to its Learning Center.

More than 40 firefighters from five Berks County departments responded to UGI’s training offer and were able to focus on safety in the same facility where UGI workers and contractors train.

“This gave UGI an opportunity to not only showcase our facility to local departments, but it also gave our local first responders a firsthand look at the work and training we do here,” says Janet Toporcer, UGI’s Public Safety Administrator.

The interactive training allows first responders to see UGI’s natural gas procedures when it comes to potentially hazardous situations. This includes understanding gas readings and controlling sources of ignition.

One first responder summed it up by calling the training an “eye opener” and a reminder to “treat every call as if it is real.”
